Seasonal Allergies

Treatment options for the management and healing of seasonal allergies such as hayfever and other mild allergic reactions to pollens

It is the time of the year that the fragrant, yellow puff ball blooms of the wattle trees remind us that Spring is coming. The flowers add a cheerful beauty into a landscape of otherwise dull looking, frost scorched plants.

For some of us, however, the wattles herald something else: the coming of the hay fever season. Symptoms can include explosive sneezing, breathing difficulties, itchy eyes and noses, tears and runny noses, itchy throats, foggy brains and fatigue. The more unfortunate may get sinus infections and anaphylaxis.

For some this torture won’t end soon. In the next five months or so wattles will be flowering – one species will succeed the other; the pine trees will soon follow with their powdery dull yellow flower spikes; photinia bushes are also readying for their display of large white clusters of tiny white flowers; then the pear and apple trees and the many other deciduous trees; by mid Spring the grasses will take over. By Christmas time the problem might finally be over…

What does this mean for the holistic management of pollen sensitivity? Sensitivity to pollens varies from allergy to one specific plant, to almost everything that flowers. So, the holistic management of pollen allergies can vary from simple to complex.

For simple plant specific allergic reactions, the clinic offers simple isopathic de-sensitisation therapies that usually work rapidly and should cover the individual for the season. An acute 30-minute session is sufficient and includes the cost for the remedies.

For multiple pollen allergies, isopathic de-sensitisation therapies may still work, but are more likely to fail if there is an underlying condition that is driving the process. It is therefore important to address the reasons behind the weakened body barriers to pollen and a hyperactive immune system.

Quite commonly individuals with multiple allergies have experienced prolonged periods of physical or mental exhaustion; they may suffer from poor mental health, particularly anxiety disorders; have underlying gut or nutritional issues; or have a genetic predisposition to sensitive mucosal barriers (skin, eyes, nose etc). In such cases an initial comprehensive naturopathic consult is advised.

Please note that severe, life-threatening allergic reactions should first be dealt by your medical doctor. Isopathic remedies are not a substitute for standard medical treatment.
